Caring For Orphans and under-privileged Children of Sri Lanka

Kathleen Keegel Childrens Fund

2006 Building Begins

An Australian based, charitable organization committed to caring for orphans and under-privileged children of Sri Lanka.

It was the primary aim of the KKCF to establish and manage an orphanage and to care for orphans and other under-privileged children.

Two of our representatives; Olivia (nee Keegel) and Fred Bartholomeusz, have been based in Sri Lanka since March 2004.

We are in the process of establishing an orphanage and children’s learning centre geared towards caring for orphans, abused and neglected children.

We have an agricultural project on a 9 acre block in the south east of the country.

There has been much work done in the community, particularly in providing relief for victims of the tsunami and in assisting with children’s literacy development.

Our Orphanage St Anthony's Boys' Home Hewadiwela is open for business. We have done a lot of work in preparing the property including an upgrade to the kitchen facility, repairing the buildings, fixing the well and refurbishing classroom s for after school tuition.

The main problem that we have now, is the completion of the fencing around the property. This is a high profile project for KKCF as it will ensure that we have a secure environment for the children and staff as well as protecting the property and facilities

We have commenced the project and the plan is to build a 4 foot high brick block fence and then add another two feet of security mesh to the top of the fence.

However, the perimeter of the property is quite large (5 acres), so we are turning to you for help in completing this project. We are asking that you ‘donate a block'. Each block is valued at $5.00 and you can donate as many or as few as you like. At the end of the project a plaque will be struck to commemorate the donations to the wall.

Those of you that donate 10 blocks or more will be individually acknowledged on the plaque.

Aussies Hit By Financial Scams

Consumer Affairs Victoria estimates that Australians lose $57 million each year in investment and financial scams.

The CA office receives around 300 complaints about such scams annually.

It estimates that every year an estimated 5600 Victorians fall victim to financial advice scams.

The Successful Investor director Michael Sloan is unsurprised by the figures. He says unscrupulous real estate agents, property investor advisors and financial consultants are guilty of a number of strategies that at best are shady, at worst are borderline illegal.

One of these strategies is listing investment properties well above their fair market value. Michael Sloan says, “They then attempt to sell to potential buyers, especially people who don't live locally. When the owners decide to sell, they discover they will suffer an enormous financial loss, simply because they bought too high at the outset.”

Practices like this were the reason Michael Sloan and his wife Laurel set up The Successful Investor. He says they were tired of seeing hardworking Australians miss out on potential wealth because of bad advice, lack of knowledge and poor investment choices.

His Melbourne-based company specialises in sourcing high quality investment properties that have immediate and long-term earnings potential. The company offers only properties it has personally and comprehensively vetted, are built by trusted qualified tradesmen and marketed by trustworthy developers. Properties must also exactly match the needs of investors.

TSI also offers free advice to property investors so they are not taken advantage of by unscrupulous operators and offers a buy-back guarantee on most properties.

The company’s unique business model has resulted in rapid expansion and now has offices in Victoria, Queensland, WA and NSW.

New Office In Western Australia

The Successful Investor has opened a new office in Western Australia.

Director Michael Sloan says the company's successful business model means it is expanding rapidly, requiring new offices across the country.

TSI has appointed Steve Fairbairn as State Manager for Western Australia. Steve brings with him a background in property and financial investment and is, says Michael Sloan, adept at making the process of property investment logical, simple and low risk.

"One of things that impressed us about Steve was how he gets a kick out of a client’s realisation that an investment property portfolio is not only attainable but also affordable. Putting our clients on the path to financial wealth and steering them away from financial ruin is one of our key aims."
